Mount Koghi
Mount Koghi

The mount Koghi is less than half an hour away from Nouméa and yet it is the starting point for 3 very attractive trails for hikers.

Mount Koghi park comprises 3 mounts (Malaoui peak, mount Moné and mount Bouo). It offers a wide variety of sceneries (primary forest, waterfalls, bush…) and is known for its very rich and diversity biodiversity.

Observe the many species of fern trees, listen to the sound of the Goliath pigeon… Or enjoy a raclette (typical dish with potatoes, a variety of hams and melted cheese) at the auberge of the Koghi:

3 hiking trails are available – Contact us for a quotation:

  • The water cascade path: this 30-minutes (one way) path is relatively easy. The path is paved on its initial part while the 2nd part is slightly more technical, but most people will be able to enjoy it. At the end of the path, you will arrive to a waterfall: sit down, enjoy the fresh air or a have a swim. If you pay close attention, you might be able to observe some eels. This is an ideal path in summer, in the shade of the forest and with a natural pool of fresh water to cool down.
  • The Malaoui peak also named “chapeau du gendarme” (literally police hat): this is a splendid path with a unique view over the city of Noumea. This hike is 1h30 (one way) long from the carpark. Its first half is in the tropical forest. The second part is on a ridge leading to the Malaoui peak (687m high). Choose this path on a sunny day and enjoy a picnic on the Malaoui peak. Simply magic!
  • The Summits tour: this path will lead you to the 2 highest mounts of the Koghis mountains: Mount Moné (1075m of altitude) and Mount Bouo (1059m). The view is simply fantastic, but this path is difficult. Count about 5 hours for a good walker. A good level of fitness is required. Additional recommendations for this hike: choose a sunny day, otherwise it is very slippery and take a guide.
