You can do really a lot in Noumea, but our advice is not to try to do everything. Noumea is a small city but nonetheless very active, and it won’t be possible to all in just a day.
Our advice for your pacific trip: choose what you want to do in priority!
You want to discover Noumea, the capital city of New Caledonia?
Then opt for a City Tour: include a visit of Noumea’s market (open all mornings except on Monday), a guided visit of the Tjibaou Cultural Center, 1 or 2 museums or the aquarium of Noumea. Also don’t forget, the city center and the historic coconut square and a discovery of Noumea’s beaches, Lemon Bay and Anse Vata. Finish with a climb to the top of the Ouen Toro, the best lookout of Noumea, and you will miss little 😉
You prefer the countryside?
Opt for the South of the island. In less than 30 minutes, you will be away from the crowds and you will discover the authentic and fabulous nature of the South of the island. One option is to drive down to Yaté, its artificial but nonetheless magical lake and continue the road down to the quiet village of Yaté where you can enjoy a lunch on a beach in a luxurious vegetation. In the South, the other possibility is to discover the Blue River Park (Le parc de la riviere bleue). Natural reserve since 1980 you can enjoy a discovery of its unique nature, a swim in the transparent waters of its river. With a bit of luck and a good sense of observation, you will also be able to observe the Cagou, the endemic flightless New Caledonian bird. Less driving for this 2nd option, just make sure you don’t wear white clothes this tour!
