The Dogny plateau has everything it takes for a great hike! Lots of history and stories, rich fauna and flora, magnificent countryside and a breathtaking view when you reach the plateau.

So let’s take off the flip flops and put hiking shoes on. The Dogny plateau is one of the most magnificent hikes in New Caledonia but it is definitely not an easy one! It is classified as difficult, not particularly technical, but physically demanding.

A few figures that summarize the difficulty: 1 000 meters of positive climb between the start of the path and the plateau itself. Count about 2 hours to reach the plateau and 7 hours for the full loop.

If you feel ready for the physical challenge, join us for a wonderful day. The path is indeed long but never boring. You will start in a coffee and guava trees forest, remains from the colonial period plantations. During the fresh season, you can also pick up raspberries along the path.

The forest progressively evolves and in little time you enter a remarkably conserved primary forest. Listen to the goliath pigeon and Caledonian crow, observe the many fern trees in a dense forest.

A few more steps before you arrive to the top. There, the view is simply magic, absolutely breath-taking.

If you have energy left there is a path on top of the plateau. The magic will continue with many surprises: waterfalls nested in luxuriant vegetation; the 150 million years old plant Amborella trichopoda…

If you feel ready for the adventure, please contact us and we will organize you an amazing hike!

Oleti, thank you, merci.

A bit of history: the Dogny plateau has long been a place of gathering and commerce between the West and East coasts tribes of New Caledonia. The path has been (re)opened in 1956-1957 in order to celebrate an important mass gathering West and East coasts tribes, on January 12, 1958.
