There are lots of events taking place in an around Noumea, mainly during weekends. Here is a shortlist of a few things to do, when you are visiting New Caledonia.
Saturday June 1st, 2019 – 9:30am: Guided visit of the maison celieres. La maison celieres is one of the most well-known colonial house of Noumea and is really worth a visit. Even more interesting, is when you can benefit from a guided visit organized by the association “temoignage d’un passé” and learn about the history of the Celieres family and its house.
Sunday June 2nd, 2019 : Guided visit of the distillery of Nessadiou. Discover the west coast of New Caledonia and join a visit of the distillery of Nessadiou. Famous for its paperbark tea tree essential oil, you will learn about the process of distillation, while visiting the beautiful region of Bourail.
Saturday June 15th, 2019 – 8pm : Sound and light Teremba show. Enjoy the annual sound and light show at the Teremba historical site. To enjoy this show, best is to understand French, but nonetheless non-French speakers will enjoy the magic of the show in a site famous for being a centre of the early penal colony. Group this show with a day tour, and you will have a fantastic day in the West coast of New Caledonia.
Saturday June 15th, 2019 – 8am to 6pm: 8th edition of the octopus celebration in Thio. Enjoy traditional dancing, octopus fishing competitions, net fishing shows, weaving classes… while you discover the tribe of Grand Borendy. Traditional food including yummy seafood and local crafts.
Saturday June 22th, 2019 – 8pm: 2nd session of the Teremba sound and light show (see above).
Saturday June 29th, 2019 – 9am to 4pm – Lucien ecocitizen market in Noumea. The Bernheim public library (1905 building) organizes its ecocitizen market. You will discover local crafts and organic products, in the garden of this famous 1905 building. Group this visit with a historical walking tour in the town center.
